Career Counselling and Vocational Training: Skilling Youth to Make them Job Ready
Having realized the need for students to have vocational skills, BFA, in its pilot project in 2019-20, had sponsored the training of 9 students from Hindi Medium Schools, in Paramedical and Dress Design Courses. Our initiative got shot in the arm when we were given an opportunity to partner with HCL Foundation for Career Counselling and Vocational Training Project in their Skills and Livelihoods program in 2020. The project continued till 31st March 2023. Thereafter other Corporates, viz, Salasar Techno engineering Limited, Ultragenic and ANR Motors supported this programme.
Under SAKSHAM, BFA counsels students of Inter-colleges in Noida about careers and vocational courses that will provide them with skills and make them employable such as courses in Paramedical streams, Cosmetology, Beauty and Make-up, Computer courses in Basic IT, Computer Graphics, Video Editing, Animation, Tally, Technical Courses etc.
BFA helps students with admissions to selected institutes and mentors them till they complete the course and find employment. As of March 2025, BFA has provided career counselling to more than 7000 students and sponsored the vocational training of 393 impecunious students in 28 different courses from 11 reputed institutes. Of them 314 students have completed their respective courses. BFA helped 247 students, who had completed their courses, secure jobs. A majority of these students are girls.
Vocational Training has been a life changer for these students, most of whom are first generation learners. They have gained skills for life, job opportunities, confidence and career growth, a life of dignity. The programme has positively impacted their families too. The girls who are now skilled, confident and earning are a role model for other girls and to the society at large. Many students of the earlier batches have grown in their careers and have gone on to do extremely well both financially and professionally.
