Wall Hung Libraries (WHL)
In 2021, BFA started sending Wall Hung Libraries (WHL) to rural schools. Each WHL contains about 80-100 beautifully illustrated story books in English, Hindi and regional languages. Wall hung libraries help village schools, that have no dedicated room to spare for a library, spread the joy of reading.
A letter from a Sarpanch in Maharashtra who wrote to us requesting for a WHL in Marathi was the trigger for this initiative. The joy that it brought the students in the village prompted us to launch this impact mission. In 2021, BFA started sending Wall Hung Libraries (WHL) in English, Hindi and other regional languages, to different parts of the country, from its own corpus.
The mission is now being spread to village schools all over India to bring the JOY OF READING to children who have no access to books other than course books.
Each library unit hosts 180-100 high-quality books, written in regional languages with vivid illustrations, covering themes that foster imagination, inclusivity, and real-world understanding. By placing these libraries in classrooms and corridors, reading becomes a part of daily school life—accessible to all.
“I didn’t know books could be so colorful. I want to read them all.”
— Class 4 student, Jewar Block, Noida
A teacher in remote Arunachal Pradesh recently wrote to us: “Students are so excited to see and read new books.”
Another educator in Meghalaya shared: “It’s a boon for us to receive the books. Students enjoyed all of them.”
The libraries are attracting students to read and aiding learning and understanding, encouraging them to write, draw and dream!
As of 31st March 2025, BFA has installed 760 WHL in village schools in 24 states and 4 Union Territories including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
